Pictures presented in this gallery – made by Marek Angiel in the years 2001-2006 – show the, already non-existing, wooden cottages of the Carpathian Foothills (Wiśnickie Foothills, around Bochnia and Wiśnicz). These unique photographs recorded the rustic environment, which – along with many customs, traditions and rituals – has passed away in oblivion.
Present transformation of the villages, which influenced the changes of the landscape, makes no illusions – the villagers of this region deliberately and on a large scale destroy the harmonious cultural landscape of traditional village – notices bitterly Angiel. This process also refers to other rural parts of Poland. The dominant feature of the modern village architecture is a red tile of the roofs. To recall old village climates, photos are accompanied with popular 19th century paintings with rural motifs.
