History II

In this section we present the history of Poland from its accession to the European Union, i.e. from 2004 to the present day. We show the political evolution from the great enthusiasm for EU membership and the related changes, as well as the birth of extreme euroscepticism in some political elites. The attitudes of Poles what are difficult to understand for a foreigner, so we explain why Poles accept this membership to a large extent, while supporting the government of Law and Justice, which is anti-European. You will find descriptive texts, galleries and thematic articles here.

Since 2015, ie from the seizure of the political power by the “Law and Justice” (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) party, Poland is in a very dramatic moment of its history – there is a very quick retreat from the values that guide the European Union. A new Polish history is being created, which is to be told in this chapter. Above all, however, we want to show the resistance of the society against destruction of democracy, the elimination of the independence of the judiciary (and soon also the media), so that you would not think that Poles don’t care.

Note: on the right wing and nationalists websites this part of the story may be presented and explained differently. Our history is presented from a strongly pro-European and anti-nationalist perspective.
